It's crisp out today.  And by crisp I mean freezing.  Well, at least the Halloween decorations already up in my house don't seem so prematurely ridic anymore.  It's also time to put the seasonal classic dvd on loop...Nightmare Before Christmas. So Goat

Yep - nothing says the first day of school like goats.  We spent a blissful vacation way off the grid at our friends' goat farm last week.  When I asked Oscar what he wanted on his bag, school was the furthest thing from his mind.  He wants to go back to the farm he says.  Sigh. Yesterday was camp olympics + Oscar's team color was orange.  Sweat, dirt, heat, rain + face paint...yeah.  He resembled one of the many snacks I rarely (if ever) allow him to have when I picked him up in the evening.  Showering took a looooong time + lots of soap.  Happy Friday!  xoxo

Duck Duck Goose

It's the little things.  In this case - the party favor slash noisy-ass puppet from my nephew's birthday party a couple of weeks ago.  Oscar is kinda obsessed with it + thanks to camp "silly day" so is the entire hummingbird group.  Oscar's best bud Adrian was especially into it so we spread the love + gave him one too.  Big ups to Adrian's parents who are still talking to me.  Happy Tuesday!  xoxo

Booty

We are back!  It's been a few weeks of crazy - the ending of school, beginning of camp + a little independence day thrown in.  I admit I have been pretty inconsistent with the morning doodle.  Oscar has been understanding...until this morning.  He was playing Pirates of the Caribbean on PS3 while lunch-y prep was going on.  That's when he told me he misses his bags.  Aw!  Ok I say - I have time for something quick + promised to get on it for future snacks.  Luckily with Pirates playing the in the background inspiration came easy.  Plus I like to say the word booty.  Happy Wednesday!  xoxo

Tales from the Crypt

Some of my parent friends tell stories of their kids' voracious reading appetites.  Well, this is not my kid despite my own pretty substantial reading habits. Oscar likes to write his own stories.  You can imagine how fun book reports are - assigned twice weekly.  When I ask Oscar what book he wants to use for his homework last night, he quickly makes up a title (Blood Drinking Monsters).  Yeah.  Try again puppet - get something from the shelf.  Skelly the Skeleton materializes with the request to draw her for the bag so everyone can see she's not just a girl...she's a spooky girl. I had hoped to get off easy with an American flag doodle in honor of Flag Day this morning...no dice.  Time ticking away + homeboy asking me to draw the level he was trying to clear in Super Mario Bros.  Sigh.  We made it out of the house on time but the bottom halves of Mario + skeleton turtle didn't fair so well in my haste.  At least he got to the boss bowzer.  Happy Thursday!  xoxo

Well, actually bonjour, but unfortunately there isn't a band with that name that I am aware.  So, this is a special request by my special little protege.  Oscar's best friend's little sister slash the girl he will always secretly dream is his girlfriend.  When I asked Oscar this morning if he was cool with giving up the doodle to her this morning he had noooo problem with it.  Of course.  Having held this same title with my brother's bff forever, I can tell you little girl, just reap the benefits.  There's no shame in my game.  Happy Friday!  xoxo

No real "plans" this weekend + as uze we ended up doing like 8 million things...plus the weather was killer.  This morning while we reminisced in an unprecedented early up time Oscar's high point involved his indulgence in Hawaiian Punch at the taco stand.  It's his liquid sunshine  + something he is only allowed to have when we go there (which is like once a week).  I guess good times come in all forms.  Happy Monday!  xoxo

Step Right Up

Sigh...what a dope weekend.  It was super fine all the way through this morning's commute.  Back to work / school was definitely a drag, but hey, summer is when we bloom here en la casa.  We went to Coney Island yesterday (magic) where Oscar won a whole bunch of cheap crap at the game stands.  He was still on this high when he woke up - clutching a nice new dust collector I will surely ditch when he's not looking.  Good stuff.  Long, hot sunny days are here!  Happy Tuesday!  xoxo

Don't Feed the Bears

I love when Oscar asks me to draw animals...cute + furry + squeezy + cuddly.  Right.  When he proposed I doodle a bear this morning (inspired by the new Best Coast album cover - my kid has taste) he made sure I understood it's "a bear attacking a person." This graphic gory boy phase is for realz.  He was down with the angry bear but noted there wasn't an actual person in the illustration pissing themselves.  Use your imagination I say, followed by frowny face response - oh well.   Happy Friday!  xoxo

I made an interesting discovery this past week.  Oscar bought a wallet last week.  That's right...a wallet.  Purchased by him, for him, because he has a cash stash.  Turns out my kid is a lunchroom hustler.  He is selling his snacks on what is practically a daily basis at school.  My first response?  Where's my cut?  Clearly I have some street etiquette to teach this kid, but I applaud his entrepreneurialism!  He also enjoyed the doodle because it "looks sneaky." Zombies FOREVER!  That's how it feels anyway.  This morning I was asked to draw a rendition of the Plants vs Zombies PS 3 disc image.  I had to rely on Oscar's description since he wouldn't stop playing + take it out so I could see...not sure if it really looks like this or I just translated an undead Wilson from one of TV's lamest moments.  Happy Thursday!  xoxo

Oscar as predicted responded with "butt" this morning when asked what he'd like, followed by "toilet" when I would not honor his request.  Sigh...that's been done dude.  "But I want him to have a face...and it's Christmas!"  What?  So just maybe this is what it would look like if you had personified plumbing throwin' up tude during the holidays.  Idk.  Happy Monday!   xoxo

Monsters vs. Butts

Maybe my allowance of Family Guy has reached the saturation point.  Oscar asked over + over again for me to draw just one thing:  a butt.  HAHA.  No.  This will get me into trouble for sure I think. I tell him the closest he will get to this is a portrait of Sir Mix-a-lot + we all know I am not skilled enough to draw a real person (i.e. previously published Harrison Ford blog).  Finally he caves, defeated.  "Allllright, draw a monster then."  By the sound of it, this battle is not over.  Butt will be back.  Happy Friday!  xoxo

The morning went a little something like this:  draw a shark tank.  EZ-E since we have been battling time in the a.m.  "Ok cute-ah" I say - "It's going to be a super quick sketch though, cool?"  He's good.  Of course, once my cave drawing is complete he points out there isn't any blood.  What?  "I wanted a shark attack in the tank," he says.  Sigh...stay tuned for tomorrow's follow up complete with gory appendages.

I have to confess, Oscar didn't weigh in on today's doodle + I paid the price.  He needed 2 snacks today based on the pre-Easter party schedule.  I had in mind a Jesus / zombie scene complete with tomb but thought this might not be cool with the teacher at school.  Instead? An innocuous seussian play on the 2 bags.  Oscar was kinda pissed - "those stories are for babies" he tells me.  Ok maybe.  I encouraged him to take some time today + bloody them up - Thing's 1 + 2 the undead version.  Possibly a market here?  Comics, vid games, action figures...hmmm.  Happy Thursday!  xoxo
