Every school day my son requests his doodle...the one I draw on his snack bag. At times elaborate, whimsical, topical, but mostly just whatever he is into at the moment. I am NOT an artist, but indulge this request each day for fun. This is a daily musing about his requests.

Leap of Faith
So February...it's a wrap. This month has been pretty dope - no complaints for sure. Super cool that we're ending it with the 2-9. Oscar has lots of questions about the meaning of this - I tried to simplify the math & earth's rotation around the sun...blah blah blah. Can't wait to hear how it comes back to me tonight after many classroom, lunchroom and after school convos. Happy Wednesday! xoxo

Mermaid Parade
Oscar, still hooked on the gun idea, tried to convince me it would be okay to draw one. "No" I say. He responds "Draw something from Pirates of the Caribbean...one of the mermaids, but not scary & Lego." Ok! Maybe tomorrow he'll want the horror version? Happy Tuesday! xoxo

Cannonball Run
Well, it's been a solid week of hi-jinx...understandably no one wanted to do the standard Monday this morning. And Oscar asked for (wait for it) a gun as his doodle. Um, this ranks with the bomb thing - cool stuff for 7 year old boys, not cool stuff for a school-time snack bag. "How about a cannon? Pirates, revolutionaries, you know, legit weaponry." He's not 100% but on the first day back from a sweet winter break, guess I'll settle for 79. Happy Monday! xoxo

The Walking Dead
Our winter break has officially begun. We will be drawing, painting, all around fun stuff for sure, but blogging on hold till next week. Until then, I will leave you with this...Oscar's goodie bags from his 7th bday zombie party yesterday. His request - make every bag different. Ok! That's 13 zombies yo. We collaborated - he colored them all in. His bag had to be even more customized...zombie swallowed by man-eating plant. Enjoy! Happy Monday + rest of the week homies. xoxo

Dy-NO-Miiiite
Who doesn't love a Jimmy Walker reference in the morning? Yeah, Oscar asked for dynamite. And yeah, I said that Good Times catch phrase...he didn't get it of course. Well, we're in explosives & ammunition phase - I'll just make the best of it with quirky cartoon doodles. Happy Thursday! xoxo

Squawk Box
We are all about pirates. I mean, it's serious. Oscar wakes up every morning & goes directly to his POTC game. The good news? Lots of imagery yo...this could go on for a grip. Happy Wednesday! xoxo

Heart Shaped Box
Love is in the air. It's Valentine's Day...I really dig the kid version of this holiday. Oscar is giving out 3D dinosaur cards to his class. They'll have a party & get a super sugar high. Fun day -mine will not come close to this. Happy Tuesday! xoxo

Message in a Bottle
Or a ship...whatever! The second part of our Sunday was spent playing PS3, advancing levels in Pirates of the Caribbean - inspiration. Oscar naturally followed up the request to draw a ship in bottle with a request to build a ship in a bottle. Um, ok? I'll get right on it. Happy Monday! xoxo

Johnny Depp is Hot...Period
Legos dominate kid world – fact. I am totally in favor of this, even if it does mean I have to get my Johnny Depp fix in blocky form. Oscar loves Pirates of the Caribbean (winning) & asked that I draw Jack Sparrow this morning, but Lego Jack Sparrow. Whatevs. I tell Oscar as I doodle that I also enjoy watching these films with him – happy he chose to watch this morning, to which he replies “Because you think Jack Sparrow is hot.” Uh…yeah. It is both hilarious & disturbing that my young son uses this new adjective to describe people. In this case he is spot on of course. Happy Wednesday! xoxo

More than Meets the Eye
Today we continued our path of destruction (in thought anyway) with a simple request. “Draw a robot with weapons for arms.” Pretty specific. Word. As I doodled Oscar gently reminded me that boys like things that blow up and create chaos. Uh-huh – got it. Check & check. This dude shoots missiles with one arm & the other is a mutated revolver. Oscar likes it – he says it’s BumbleBee’s evil twin brother. Alright! Happy Tuesday! xoxo

King Kong Ding Dong
Why so late this morning? No idea – there is a serious time suck present in my weekday am program. Well, there was a giant gorilla in Oscar’s show this morning…that’s it. I feel I have to give this one another go though. 2 minutes did not allow me to really do what I wanted. On the flip, Oscar was NOT late for school – boom. Happy Monday! xoxo

Da Bomb
I have been resisting this request for a couple of weeks because, well, explosives + school seems like a pretty bad idea. Oscar is fascinated with bombs. As he tells it, boys like things that "blow up.". Oh, I'm aware, I tell him. Still, I say, this is not the kind of thing we should really be researching. I cave with a quick & hokey cartoon-y version just to get her done. Happy Thursday! xoxo

Eye of the Tiger
Oscar enjoys affecting a variety of whiskered creatures when we floss at night. His favorite is the Japanese Fighting Fish (pictured here). Last night this imitation went on hella long, complete with simulated swimming & a jillion questions about how & why they fight. They're beautiful - may have something do with ego I tell him. Happy Wednesday! xoxo
